Art

As artists we look at art, we talk about art and we make art.

Our art curriculum at Hilperton
Art is an expression of creativity. Through art, we can express our thoughts and feelings. Art can be almost anything creative — a drawing, a painting or a sculpture.

At Hilperton School, we want to inspire children to engage in creative processes; allowing them to express their imaginations through a solid foundation of learned skills and knowledge. We provide children with the language and skills to talk critically about art, to express their thoughts and feelings freely and to experience art from a diverse and rich range of artists. We teach them to value the creative journey and articulate their processes. We support them to select and use a wide range of materials to create art, craft and design whose purpose is to be beautiful or full of meaning.

Our art curriculum is based on the Kapow scheme of work. It is knowledge-rich and inclusive. It is designed so that knowledge and skills are revisited and developed year-on-year to support retention and deeper understanding. We aim to make links between art and other areas of the curriculum and support children to recognise the impact art has on contemporary life and that of different times and cultures.

We strive to nurture children's inherent confidence and creativity as artists. We want our children to able to see the world through their own eyes, make sense of it and work to make it a better place for all.
