Our Geography Curriculum at Hilperton 
At Hilperton Primary, geography is an exciting and essential part of our curriculum. Through geography, our children explore the world around them - locally, nationally and globally.

Our geography curriculum is built around four key pillars: 

1. Location — understanding where places are and why they matter 
2. Place — exploring what makes a place unique or similar to others 
3. Human and physical — learning how people and the environment interact 
4. Geographical skills — developing practical skills such as using maps, interpreting data and fieldwork 

These pillars help children develop a broad and deep understanding of the world, while also building vital life skills such as problem-solving, questioning and observation. 

We bring geography to life through a variety of engaging and hands-on approaches: 

• Using maps, globes and digital tools to explore different places 
• Making field observations in our local area (and beyond) 
• Asking big questions about the world and using evidence to find answers
• Interpreting data from real-life sources and understand patterns and changes
• Working together to solve problems that affect communities and the environment.

It is important for our children to understand their local area and community. We use our surrounding area as a foundation for learning, allowing children to develop a strong sense of place and community. We then compare our local area with places in the UK and around the world, helping children to see both the connections and differences across the globe.

We aim to inspire children to be informed and responsible global citizens. Geography at Hilperton is not just about learning facts — it is about understanding our world, caring for it and playing an active role in shaping its future.
