PE and Sports - our vision

Physical Education

Physical Education is highly valued at Hilperton C of E Primary School as we recognise the importance of its contribution to our pupil’s health and well-being, academic development and enjoyment of school life. At Hilperton we aim to provide high quality physical education for all children, delivered by members of staff, who are committed to engaging pupils and developing their skills in PE. Embedded within the curriculum are opportunities for all children to engage in competitive sporting activities both within our school and the wider community. By delivering this we aspire to provide a life-long love of PE and sports through the enjoyment, participation and variety of opportunities offered which will result in healthy, active lifestyles for all.

In Key Stage 1 and Foundation we are developing the children’s basic fundamental movement skills of agility, balance and coordination through Real PE. The curriculum provides opportunities for the children to work individually and collaboratively on activities thus developing their team working skills. Children participate in competitive sporting activities against self, others and take part in festivals in the wider community.

In Key Stage 2 pupils continue to apply and develop a broad range of skills through the Real PE scheme which focusses on the fundamental movement skills of agility, balance and coordination.  The skills developed are linked to sports and real life experiences to allow the children to apply their skills. We also provide a large variety of competitive opportunities for the children to participate in sporting activities against self, others and against other schools through the wide range of competitions and festivals held by the Trowbridge Collaborative Ltd.

The school has developed their own assessment system to monitor the children’s physical skills as well as their understanding and team working.

In 2018 - 2019 we achieved our Gold Sainsbury’s School Games Kite-mark.  We also hold the Silver Youth Sport Trust Quality Mark. This highlights our hard work and commitment to:

  • Competition
  • Club Links
  • After School Clubs
  • Leadership
