PE and Sports - our vision

Physical Education

Physical Education is highly valued at Hilperton C of E Primary School as we recognise the importance of its contribution to our pupil’s health and well-being, academic development and enjoyment of school life. At Hilperton we aim to provide high quality physical education for all children, delivered by members of staff, who are committed to engaging pupils and developing their skills in PE. Embedded within the curriculum are opportunities for all children to engage in competitive sporting activities both within our school and the wider community. By delivering this we aspire to provide a life-long love of PE and sports through the enjoyment, participation and variety of opportunities offered which will result in healthy, active lifestyles for all.

At Hilperton we use the Getset4PE scheme to support us in teaching high quality PE lessons. Getset4PE is a scheme of work that is comprehensive and progressive from nursery to year 6. At Hilperton we created a detailed curriculum map which builds from EYFS to year and matches our PE vision.

PE is being physical, developing agility, balance, co-ordination through a range of sports and includes competition for all.

In Key Stage 1 and Foundation we are developing the children’s basic fundamental movement skills of agility, balance and coordination. The curriculum provides opportunities for the children to work individually and collaboratively on activities thus developing their team working skills. Children participate in competitive sporting activities against self, others and take part in festivals in the wider community.

In Key Stage 2 pupils continue to apply and develop a broad range of skills focussing on the fundamental movement skills of agility, balance and coordination.  The skills developed are linked to sports and real-life experiences to allow the children to apply their skills. We also provide a variety of competitive opportunities for the children to participate in sporting activities against self, others and against other schools.
