“We soar high on wings like eagles”

Music

As musicians we listen, explore and create art through sound.
Children doing a variety of musical activities

Intent:

At Hilperton, we believe that singing and music are an essential part of our curriculum. We want children to be exposed to a range of music, both live and recorded, have opportunities to learn an instrument and explore the inter-related dimensions of music in creative ways. We want to instil our pupils with the confidence to soar high on wings like eagles by listening, exploring and creating music.

At Hilperton we teach music through:

  • KS1 Nativity plays
  • Weekly singing assemblies
  • Church services
  • KS2 end of year performances
  • Live zoom session with Wiltshire Music Connect
  • Weekly music lessons with a music expert
  • Music workshops within school
  • Listening to a range of genres, styles and musical periods
  • SparkYard music curriculum
  • Performances to parents/grown ups

At Hilperton we follow the Spark Yard scheme of music. Spark Yard allows children to follow a key sequence of musical activities through a skills based approach. Children explore key musical concepts and themes, which are revisted across the year groups. This year, KS2 are taking part in the StarDust music project; we have weekly workshops with singing and acting experts. We will be taking part in two performances at the Wiltshire Music Centre in January.
